The Discount Calculator answers every version of the checkout question in one place: what does a 30% discount actually cost me, how much am I saving, what do two stacked discounts really add up to, and what was the original price before the sale? All calculations happen instantly in your browser as you type — nothing is sent anywhere.
Why a discount calculator?
Store discounts are designed to be persuasive, not transparent. "30% + 20% off" is not 50% off — it's 44%, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price. And a "was 899, now 649" tag invites you to check whether the claimed markdown percentage is honest. Doing this arithmetic at the shelf or during a checkout countdown is error-prone; this tool does it correctly, instantly.
Key Features
- Three Modes: Percent off (classic sale), fixed amount off (coupon), and reverse — recover the original price from the discounted one.
- Stacked Discounts: Add a second successive discount and see the effective combined rate — the number stores hope you won't compute.
- Instant Results: Final price, the amount you save, and the effective discount rate update as you type.
- Transparent Formulas: The exact formula used is shown under the results, so you can verify or reuse it.
- Currency-Agnostic: Works with any currency — it's your numbers, unformatted by locale assumptions.
- 100% Client-Side Privacy: Pure arithmetic in your browser; no prices or budgets are transmitted or stored.
How to Use the Discount Calculator
- Pick a mode: Percent Off, Amount Off, or Find Original Price.
- Enter the price and the discount (percentage or amount).
- For double promotions, enable the stacked discount option and enter the second percentage.
- Read the final price, your savings, and the effective rate; click Copy Result if you need it elsewhere.
Why Choose This Tool?
It handles the cases mental math gets wrong — stacked promotions and reverse calculations — and shows its formulas instead of hiding them. There are no ads mid-calculation, no app installs, and it works offline. Note: this is a plain price calculator; it deliberately contains no credit, installment, or interest features.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why isn't 30% + 20% equal to 50% off?
The second discount applies to the price after the first one. 100 → 70 after 30%, then 70 → 56 after 20%: you pay 56, an effective discount of 44%, not 50%.
How do I check if a "was/now" price tag is honest?
Use Find Original Price mode in reverse: enter the "now" price and the claimed discount percentage — if the computed original doesn't match the "was" price on the tag, the markdown is overstated.
Does the calculator handle taxes?
It works on whichever price you enter. If the discount applies before tax, calculate on the pre-tax price and add tax after (this site's VAT calculator can help with that step).
Is anything I type stored or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation is a few multiplications performed in your browser's memory. Nothing is transmitted, logged, or persisted.
